A real life story. A Naik from the Army had a fatal road accident after retirement in Hyderabad, leaving behind his widow with her three sons. Unfortunately, sometime later, the third son also met with a similar road accident and sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to the hospital and the doctors advised an operation. When the widow went to ECHS for the documentation, to her horror she found that the name of the third son was missing from the card. Though it was on the ESM card but was not in the discharge book and ECHS card. The Dir of ECHS could not add the name without any entry in the Discharge book. The only option left was to approach the concerned Records/Center for the amendment. Imagine the plight of the widow of a NCO, not very educated, living in Hyderabad, to go out of station, in this case to Lucknow, UP, contact the concerned staff and get the amendment done.
