Can a phone Call save a Life?
A real life story.
A Naik from the Army had a fatal road accident after retirement
in Hyderabad, leaving behind his widow with her three sons.
Unfortunately, sometime later, the third son also met with
a similar road accident and sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to
the hospital and the doctors advised an operation. When the widow went to ECHS for the
documentation, to her horror she found that the name of the third son was
missing from the card. Though it was on the ESM card but was not in the
discharge book and ECHS card.
The Dir of ECHS could not add the name without any entry in the Discharge book.
The only option left was to approach the concerned
Records/Center for the amendment. Imagine the plight of the widow of a NCO, not
very educated, living in Hyderabad, to go out of station, in this case to Lucknow,
UP, contact the concerned staff and get the amendment done. Time was at premium
to follow the normal channels. Even if her elder son was to go to Lucknow from Hyderabad
to get it done, it would have been a herculean task and loss of precious time. Moreover,
who would entertain him there, given the bureaucratic systems we have? That is
when she happened to approach the members of Help and Serve Public Charitable
Trust, exclusively for the Armed Forces. The members made a few calls to find
out any contacts and connected with the
concerned officer in the Records. The required documents were sent by mail to
the authorities and were accepted.
The widow's happiness new no bounds when an email was
received by Dir ECHS within 36 hours, thus helping the widow to proceed with
the operation of her son.
It was nothing short of a miracle but can happen when we
have a pure desire.
A very small effort
but a great life saver. A phone call indeed could save a life. The amount of
happiness and satisfaction even the people who helped got is invaluable. The thrill of saving a human life can not be
measured.
SOME OTHER CASES
Mutual Help During
Corona.
Some of the armed forces officers posted at Delhi were worried
about their parents in Secunderabad. They were unable to help them with
medicines and basic groceries etc. as no
movements were allowed. Then they b approached the people in the Help and serve
group. The locals in Secunderabad moved in to help the old parents of armed
Forces personnel posted far away.
How a PPO error pending
for ten months was rectified in six days?
An Army veteran says
‘While transferring my Pension A/c to SPARSH, start date of
Absolute Commutation erroneously recorded as 01/08/2011 instead of 30/04/2011.
Approached several authorities for more than 10 months without no result.
Finally approached above Help and serve through the website, and result comes out within six days. They approached Records on my behalf and got the amendment done'.
